Fleetwood will make someone suffer soon, vows Ball

David Ball is convinced Fleetwood are due to give someone a 'hiding' after missing a hat-ful of chances in recent weeks.

Town had to settle for a point at Swindon on Saturday, despite dominating much of the game, with wasteful finishing costing them what would have been a vital three points.

Tonight they face mid-table Peterborough, who arrive at Highbury on the back of three wins on the bounce.

Ball is expected to lead the line for the Cod Army and is convinced the chances will turn into goals soon.

He said: “We are creating chances, which is really encouraging. We are due to give someone a hiding.

“At least we are getting into scoring positions – you have to be there to miss them.

“We all know as strikers that we have to take those chances and I’m sure we will.

“On Saturday, the number of good chances we created meant we should have taken three points. We missed chances you have to take at this level.

“We were all obviously disappointed but we have tonight to put it right.”

Wes Burns’ goal at Swindon on Saturday was Town’s first in four games, keeping them a point above Oldham and the relegation zone. The Latics are also in action tonight at home to Swindon.

Steven Pressley’s side would drop into the bottom four if Oldham have a better result tonight, though victory for Town would against Swindon would see them leapfrog Blackpool on goal difference, while still having a game in hand.

Ball is more than aware of the importance of tonight’s game. He said: “The quicker we get the points on the board the better.

“We don’t want the games at the end of the season to be like cup games we have to win. If we can get the points on the board quickly, we’ll be happy.

“We strikers are there to score goals – that’s what we get paid to do. I’m dying to score and I know the other strikers are.

“We are getting to the point where we have to start winning and I’m sure we will.”

Ball enjoyed 18 months with tonight’s opponents, though spent a chunk of that time on loan at Rochdale.

He scored Town’s goal in the 2-1 defeat at London Road in December and said: “They are my former club and I enjoyed scoring against them.

We were promoted in my first season there, then had a good season in the Championship. They are a good team, who score plenty of goals.

“They will try to score four if you score three, so we’ll have to be right at it.”

Boss Pressley was critical of his side’s finishing at Swindon but believes they have more than enough to get the points they need.

It’s seven games since Fleetwood earned maximum points, but Pressley isn’t losing faith.

“We have some very good players and we have real belief in ourselves,” he said.

“All that’s missing is scoring goals. Our statistics in general hold up very well. We give away very few goals and create a high number of chances.

“The margins are very fine at the moment. We are very close to being a very good team and I’m sure that it will come.”

“It’s both boxes which are the difference between being a good team and a very good team.

“And I’m sure it will come.”
