Edwards arrived on deadline day last week, joining on loan from Stoke City until the end of the season.

The 21-year-old is going to have to settle fast as the standout natural right-back in the Cod Army squad, with winger Wes Burns having filled in so far this season.

Edwards said: “I was involved in a meeting the other day and we were speaking about everything.

“I think they’re looking for hard-working players who are basically willing to die for each other and fight until the end on the pitch and off the pitch.

“I understood that and that’s the kind of player I am, I’ll put everything on the line for the team.

“It was interesting but it’s a great culture that they’ve got here.

“Since I found out how they play and that they want their full-backs pushing on and attacking, that was one of the things that drew me to the club.

“That’s the kind of player that I am, obviously I enjoy the defensive side but everyone wants to go forward and attack so I’m looking forward to hopefully getting a few more minutes and expressing what I can do.”

Edwards was one of three signings last week, along with Callum Connolly and Charlie Mulgrew.

He said: “There’s a lot of new lads coming in and I’m one of them. The lads have been welcoming, the staff too, and the lads are bonding.

“I feel like when you’re in that kind of situation, you need to help each other settle in more than yourself.

“Instead of trying to settle yourself in you need to settle in together, especially when you’re playing alongside each other.

“I think that’s what the lads have done, we’re all pushing each other and helping each other.

“I feel the standard in training is very high, everyone is pushing for places which makes good competition.

“I’m hoping to be the right-back going forward. That’s what I came here for, to play football.

“I have good competition in that position, so it’ll be tough, but hopefully I can secure my spot.

“That was one of the reasons why I wanted to come to this club, because I knew the standard was high.

“I didn’t want to just come to a club and just play without having to push myself.”
