Fleetwood Town's matches with Ipswich Town and Sunderland are suspended

Fleetwood Town have announced their next two League One games have been suspended.

Joey Barton’s players had been due to play Ipswich Town on Monday and then Sunderland next Saturday, January 9.

However, the club released a statement on New Year’s Eve to say neither match will be taking place.

It said: “The club has advised the EFL that it is unable to fulfil the fixtures following several positive Covid-19 tests and the requirement for players and staff to self-isolate as per EFL and government guidance in order to mitigate against the risk of further infection.

“The circumstances surrounding the postponement will now be the subject of an investigation in accordance with EFL Regulations.

“Revised dates for the rearranged fixtures will be confirmed in due course.”

The announcement came the day after confirmation that the scheduled match with Ipswich had been moved back 48 hours following an outbreak of Covid-19 in their camp.
