The loan move will hopefully allow the Cod Army academy graduate the chance to get regular minutes under his belt in the division below.

Grimsby are currently 23rd in League Two, though a win could see them jump a handful of places.

Speaking about the move, Town interim boss Simon Wiles said: "It's valuable experience that Jay is going to get now.

"He's at a time in his career where if he can get 10, 15 games in at League Two, playing week in and week out, seeing how robust you've got to be and playing for three points week in week out, I think that is absolutely vital for his development.

"He's at that stage where I think it is the right time to do it.

"We've got a lot of midfielders in the building and I think him going out there will give him the best opportunity to go and affect games in League Two and if he does that he gives us a great indication of where he's going to be at returning to us next year.

"It's a great opportunity, he's going to a great club in Grimsby.

"We wish him all the best and we'll be keeping a close eye on his performances. It's come at a really good time for Jay."
