The Irishman has been Town’s top scorer for the last two seasons under Joey Barton.

Though he has continued to lead the line for the Cod Army, Madden and Ched Evans have both been outscored by new arrival Callum Camps in the early stages of the current campaign.

Neither Evans nor Madden are without goals, having scored five and four in the league respectively ahead of tonight’s game with Sunderland, but Camps leads the way with eight – and 10 in all competitions.

When it comes to goals, Madden admits the hunger to score is always there but it is all about three points.

He said: “Our aim as a group is promotion. If that’s me scoring, or Ched scoring, or Campsy, whoever is scoring, as long as we get the three points that’s the main thing.

“On a personal note you want to try and score as many as you can yourself but the dressing room will be buzzing, no matter who scores, after the game.

“When you’re driving home with three points, that feels much better.

“It’s worked well with anybody in there, no matter what three we play, teams are going to look across and say that’s a strong line-up up front – or any position.

“There’s quality all over the squad, I’m just happy to be here and be a part of it.”

Town now head into a period of games where they will play twice a week every week between now and Christmas.

It isn’t new to the Cod Army players, who have largely had a heavy fixture schedule so far this season with a rare midweek off thrown in here and there.

In Madden’s case, he is happy for matches to come quickly.

He said: “I like it to be game, game. Rather than there to be a full week of training, I’d rather have a game to break it up. I always have.

“I think the weeks go quicker and it’s more enjoyable when you have games, everybody wants to play games.

“I prefer Saturday-Tuesday but I’m not sure a lot of the lads will agree with that.

“The way we’re playing at the moment, you want games to come as fast as you can.

“Thankfully they are coming up Saturday-Tuesday, and it’s important for us to go out and keep doing what we’re doing.

“We need to keep climbing the table and hopefully we’ll be where we want to be.”
