Having enjoyed his loan spell at Highbury last season, there was only going to be one destination for the 23-year-old, who joined the club from Rangers.

After signing a one-year-deal with an option of a further 12 months, he told the Gazette: “In my head I always knew where I wanted to come to, I didn’t really listen to anything else.

“It was just ‘Fleetwood are going to offer a contract’ and that was where I was going to sign.

“I’ve loved it here so far, everybody is brilliant.

“It’s a club that has built a great culture from top to bottom and can go places.

“Everyone has been first-class with me and I can’t wait to get back on the pitch and repay them.”

Injury meant Rossiter was not involved in the play-offs but ambitions are high for 2020/21 with Town back in pre-season action against Stockport County today.

“Everybody knows where we want to get to and there’s no reason why we can’t,” he said.

“The mood’s really good, the lads knew it was a bit disappointing with the way the season ended with the play-offs. That’s behind us now, we need to go and make things right for ourselves.

“The lads are going into it confident. It’s a great group of lads, everybody’s really close friends.

“We’ve had a few new signings with Callum Camps coming in and Glenn’s (Whelan) re-signed so it’s great to have that competition.”

Town have also announced two more pre-season matches ahead of the new campaign.

Joey Barton’s players will come up against Blackburn Rovers and Huddersfield Town.

The Cod Army will first host Blackburn at Highbury on Saturday, August 22 (1pm) before travelling to the John Smith’s Stadium on Wednesday, August 26 to face Carlos Corberan’s Huddersfield side (4pm).

The club has reminded fans that both matches will be behind closed doors and supporters will not be admitted into either fixture.
