Rossiter had been out after suffering a knee injury last season against Tranmere Rovers while on loan at Highbury from Rangers.

After picking up the knock, Town continued to keep him at the club throughout his loan and supported his rehabilitation, even though he wasn’t their player.

Their efforts were rewarded as Rossiter joined the club in the summer after the end of his Ibrox contract.

The 23-year-old couldn’t hide his appreciation for the Cod Army and its staff.

He said: “It felt amazing being back out there with the lads.

“It was almost a year to the day that I picked up the injury against Tranmere.

“Seven, eight months, it’s been a long time coming up to a year.

“It just felt absolutely brilliant to be back out there with the lads.

“Everyone I know from top to bottom couldn’t have done any more.

“Fleetwood have been absolutely superb with me, from the medical department to the fitness coaches, to the manager (Joey Barton) and the coaching staff.

“Every one of those positions have all been brilliant.

“I’d just like to thank them for getting me back because I might not have got back without their help.

“As soon as the injury happened, the gaffer wanted me to stay here and use the facilities throughout lockdown.

“I couldn’t thank them enough, they’ve been first class from top to bottom.”

Rossiter now has his sights set on earning a regular starting spot.

The midfield area is one of the strongest at the club but that’s how he wants it to be.

He said: “Hopefully I can start working my way back into the team, helping the lads week to week and repaying the faith in me.

“There’s competition and that’s what you want. If you’re going to get to where we want to be at the end of the season, you’re going to need competition for places.

“Sam Finley, Mark Duffy, they’re two top players. I’m coming back from injury playing alongside them.

“Last weekend it was Glenn Whelan, Callum Camps and Paul Coutts.

“It’s a fantastic midfield we’ve got. I think we’re all going to relish the battle over the coming weeks, it’s all about getting the wins on a Saturday and everyone is pulling together.”
