The Cod Army demonstrated their character with a 3-1 win over Doncaster Rovers on Tuesday night.

Jason Lokilo rifled Rovers ahead after eight minutes, but Grayson’s charges hit back through Kyle Vassell, Paddy Madden and Danny Andrew to end a run of 10 games without a win.

It was also their first home win for nearly three months – and first league victory since winning at Swindon Town in December.

“It was a really good team performance and some excellent individual performances,” hailed Grayson.

“The big pleasing thing for me was that we didn’t let our heads drop when we went 1-0 down. That was a big thing for me, it’s a really good trait to have.

“We caused them a lot of problems after conceding and we were very solid defensively.

“You do question players when they’ve been on a bad run. Have they got the right attitude to respond? And they did.

“We didn’t let it (the goal) affect us. We got on the ball and tried to pass it around like I wanted us to do.

“We looked a threat, stuck to the game plan of pressing them in certain areas and we’ve ended up beating a very good team.”

Grayson had orchestrated a clean sheet in his first match in charge against Bristol Rovers last Saturday.

Tuesday’s excellent win saw the Cod Army climb two places to 13th, eight points off the play-offs.

“It’s been a good week for us, we had a good clean sheet at the weekend and then we’ve beaten a really good team at the top end of the division,” reflected Grayson.

“It’s something to build on. We’re not going to get too carried away, but it’s been a while since that group of players has had an enjoyable result.

“We’ll look forward to the weekend now and see where that takes us.”

On a night when another record was broken, Grayson saved extra praise for Madden who became the club’s highest league goalscorer.

Madden’s cool finish saw him overtake David Ball with 42 career league goals for the Fylde coast club.

“It’s great for him and, in terms of the game, it was a really important goal for us because we were on top during that spell,” reflected Grayson.

“It seemed to take ages for him to go round the goalkeeper, get it under control and put it in. Hopefully there’s many more goals for him at this football club.”
