Fleetwood Town man is eager to bounce back against Hull City

Fleetwood Town’s Wes Burns admits it’s been a frustrating start to the season for both himself and his teammates.

Town began the campaign well, winning their first four games across all competitions before four straight losses, three in the league.

The Welshman sees tonight’s game against Hull City (7.45pm) as an opportunity to show what they can do.

“Frustrating is probably the right word to use,” he said.

“I’m obviously having to play in a position that I’ve just kind of slotted into in seasons gone by.

“I’m not able to get as far forward as I have in the past when we’re playing a back three and I’m in a wing-back role.

“For the team as well, frustration is probably the right word.

“We had those four games at the start with cup games and the league game that we won that got us off to a great start.

“Then we go to Peterborough and we lost in the manner that we did, then with the Wimbledon game as well.

“It has been a frustrating start. We have the players in the squad to be able to do a lot better than we are doing.

“Hopefully against Hull we can showcase that a lot better.”

Burns is being deployed on the right side of defence in place of Lewie Coyle, who left to join tonight’s visitors in the summer, and admits it’s hard to build a new understanding after teaming up with someone for so long.

He said: “Losing Lewie was obviously a big part to us, especially down our right side.

“Lewie and I had a great relationship that was built up across three years that he spent here on loan.

“To replace somebody that has been here and learned all our structures and the rules we have as a team, it’s going to be hard to find somebody that can slot straight into that role.

“Ideally we would like someone like that to come in so I can play a little bit further up.”
