The Cod Army had been trying to finalise the Scot’s return to Highbury from Swansea City before announcing a season-long loan arrangement yesterday afternoon.

It’s the second time McKay has joined on loan after agreeing a six-month switch in the January window.

The 25-year-old played 10 games for Town last season, scoring twice and creating several for his team-mates.

The winger isn’t looking back, however, and is turning his attention to what could lie ahead this time around.

Speaking to The Gazette, McKay said: “If you do well somewhere and they do want you back, it shows that they believe in you and they did rate you for what you’ve done there before. That played a big part in what I wanted to do.

“You can’t live off last season though and you’ve got to kick on. I spoke to the manager (Joey Barton) and he said ‘come back and try and kick on from where we were last season and see what happens through the season.’

“He wanted me to come and play football and enjoy it really.

“Whatever happened last season is in the past, you’ve got to put it behind you and push on, and do your best this season and see where it takes you.

“I’m feeling good, I played a couple of games in pre-season and I’ve been training away. It’ll be good to get into the competitive games really.

“For me, I want to come in and because it’s over the full season, I want to get that full season in.

“I want to hopefully get as many assists and goals as I can, and as many games as I possibly can as well.

“I think, as a team, we should probably keep the goals for the season in house.”

Town face AFC Wimbledon this afternoon with McKay’s involvement dependent on receiving international clearance in time.

They go into the game after league and cup defeats to Peterborough United and Everton respectively.

McKay said: “Against Peterborough it was a tough result to take with two late goals, but the thing with football is you get the chance to bounce back.

“It’s important for me to play games, and the sooner I can do that the better the better I’m going to feel, and then the better it is for the team that I can get up to full speed with match sharpness.”
