The Fleetwood Town academy graduate made his first team debut last season in the FA Cup against Barnet and also made his league debut, making eight total appearances, in what was his maiden campaign in the side.

The 20-year-old has represented England at Under 17, 18 and 19 level and is under contract at Highbury until 2022.

Fleetwood head coach Joey Barton feels the timing is right for Crellin to get more game time.

He said: “Billy committed to a long-term contract with recently and is a player we hold in very high regard at the club.

“The most important thing for him now is going out and playing regular first-team football. There was plenty of interest for Billy this summer, but we felt a season in League Two at Bolton was the perfect place for him.

“Bolton are a big club with a highly-rated young manager in Ian Evatt and hopefully it’s a move which will prove beneficial for everyone."

It will be the young stopper's third loan move, having been at FC United of Manchester and Chorley.
