Ged Garner’s first-half goal settled matters at Highbury, giving Brown’s squad back-to-back home victories after beating Plymouth Argyle last weekend.

Highbury wins have been elusive this year with the Plymouth victory their first on home soil since January.

Brown said: “I only found out after the game on Saturday that the lads have not won at home in eight months.

“It shows the quality of the lads and that they are buying into what we are trying to do.

“I think the talent has shown in the last two games, the urgency to get the ball back and the shape as soon as we lose the ball.”

That urgency was shown right throughout the spine of the team on Tuesday.

Keeper Jay Lynch made a string of fine early saves, Toto Nsiala was excellent in the centre of defence and Dan Batty impressed again in midfield.

The hope is Town can make it three victories in a row when they travel to Morecambe this weekend.

“Winning mentality is everything,” Brown added.

“You want to keep winning and we’ve got a huge game on Saturday so, hopefully, this builds a lot of confidence.

“You want strikers scoring goals, wingers playing well: you want wingers doing their job as well.

“It is encouraging because the lads are buying into everything we want. They have that high press and intensity in training.

“They are setting the standards now which is exceptional for us and our coaching staff as well.”

Having seen his players beaten at Port Vale on the opening day, Brown’s transition from player to head coach has been more enjoyable in the last few days.

It’s an environment which the former Celtic and Scotland captain is relishing.

He explained: “If you win, you sleep well. If you don’t, you don’t sleep well.

“For me it is different because I have been thrown in the deep end because I only retired two or three days before getting the job.

“It has been a fantastic ride so far. There have been ups and downs and it is only three games into the season.”
