The 21-year-old has featured regularly at the Bet365 stadium at times and has in the past been involved in a battle to nail down the starting spot at the Potters.

Edwards made his Stoke debut in the Premier League in 2017, against Manchester City, and has since gone on to pass a half century of career games, making 44 appearances in the championship across the last two seasons.

The defender also has a few England U20 caps to his name.

His arrival will be most welcome on the Fylde coast, with Joey Barton speaking in the past about his need to replace Lewie Coyle, who left to join Hull City in the summer.

Wes Burns has been used at right back so far this season, with James Hill also, but this now frees us both players to play in their natural positions on the wing and in the centre of defence respectively.

It will likely only be the start of Barton's dealings this week, with the domestic transfer deadline approaching on Friday and the 38-year-old still wanting more cover in defence.
