Fleetwood Town confirm John Sheridan will leave the club

Sheridan took over from Uwe Rosler in February and has steadied the ship, guiding Town to League One safety after just two defeats in his 11-game reign.But despite that fine form and the high praise of chairman Andy Pilley, the club has revealed that Sheridan will only remain in charge until his short-term contract ends this summer. His 21 points and six clean sheets have not been enough to secure the 53-year-old a permanent deal.Pilley would not rule out working with him again in the future, with a new head coach set to take charge ahead of the 2018/19 season.Pilley said: “We knew when we appointed John that he would have an instant impact and that has certainly been the case.“He was the right character to lift the football club and he’s seen us climb up the table. Hopefully this weekend our safety in League One can be confirmed.“The deal suited both of us at the time. John will leave us in a strong position, having recovered from a difficult spell, and I’ve no doubt he will have clubs banging down his door to hire his expertise.“John is somebody who we all have major respect for and I would never rule out working with him again in the future.”
