Fleetwood Town boss Pressley targets eight great wins

Pressley’s men travel to Swindon tomorrow in high spirits, knowing the Robins have leaked 10 goals in their last two games against Wigan Athletic (4-1) and Scunthorpe (6-0).

Fleetwood are hovering above the relegation places thanks to their superior goal difference over Oldham, who also have 41 points.

Now Pressley is eyeing a perfect end to the season, with wins over Swindon, Peterborough, Southend, Oldham, Millwall, Blackpool, Walsall and Crewe that will take them up to the “unrelegatable” 65- point mark. He said: “There is a good feeling around the place. We are very much aware of the job in hand.

“The one thing that we know is that we can achieve a points tally of 65 points come the end of the season and 65 points in this league is not going to get you relegated. It is very much in our own hands.

“We have got some interesting fixtures coming up and games that we genuinely think we can win.”

But the ex-Scotland defender does say that if his side want to achieve that feat and ensure their League One status, then they need to start scoring goals.

Town have not scored in their last three games but head to a leaky Swindon in good confidence after a courageous 0-0 draw at Chesterfield. Pressley’s men know they can hurt the Robins as they thumped them 5-1 in the reverse fixture.

Pressley says Town have been working hard on their attack in training this week and are raring to go.

He said: “It is difficult to know what to expect from Swindon because they were going really well and then they had a setback against Wigan.

“I attended the Scunthorpe game. It was a convincing win and a win that can affect the confidence of your group.

“But after such a disappointment you don’t know what you are going to get.

“You might get a really aggressive and positive response from them or they might have taken a dent to their confidence.

I think the big thing about the weekend is how we go about it. We should take confidence ourselves from the last time we met them and gave a really convincing performance at home.

“Swindon are a very pure football team and they can hurt you without a doubt.

“That day we got our press bang on and we were clinical in our finishing.

“When you watch that game, there is no doubt it was probably been the game in which we have been the most clinical with our chances.

“I think we have to be positive right now and the weekend will be no different.

“We have to score goals if we are going to survive and we have worked again this week really hard on our attacking play. We will continue doing that.

“An area that we have to improve on is the goals scored and we are working really hard towards that.

“We are trying to be as positive as we possibly can and hopefully if we continue to do things properly the goals will come.

“We have prepared well again this week and we are going to Swindon to win.”

Pressley says that captain Nathan Pond has trained all week after he was named on the bench at Chesterfield.

Wes Burns (Wales U21) and Conor McLaughlin (Northern Ireland) have returned from international duty and are back in training, while midfielder Bobby Grant is also available after serving a three-match ban for violent conduct.

Striker Shola Ameobi (hamstring) is a doubt as is Joe Davis (ankle), while fellow defender Bob Harris (toe) is not in contention, though midfielder Antoni Sarcevic (thigh) trained yesterday.

Pressley said: “Shola is still a major doubt moving forward.

“Sarcevic returned to training on Thursday and we will have to assess whether the weekend will come too quickly for him.

“Pond has this week’s training under his belt, so that is really important.

“McLaughlin returned to training on Thursday from international duty and Wes Burns returned yesterday too.

“We are getting a few back in. We were thin on the ground for a period but we are getting players back in and that bodes well.

“I’m not one to moan about injuries but we have had an incredible period for injuries to key players, though it has given others the opportunity to try to stake their claim.”

Town’s penultimate fixture away to Walsall has been moved back two days for live TV coverage.

Town’s last away game of the season will now take place on bank holiday Monday, May 2, with a 12.15pm kick-off.

The game was initially scheduled for Saturday April 30 but will be screened live on Sky Sports. Ticket and travel information will be announced by the club shortly.
