Due to Town’s poor run of form over recent weeks, the emphasis has been as much on not losing as it has been on winning.

Town’s clean sheet record has improved and they’ve picked points up to keep things ticking over.

A run of wins is what’s needed for the Cod Army but there is no magic fix according to Grayson.

He said: “You’ve got no magic wand that you can suddenly change a group into playing free-flowing, attacking football.

“That’s what I want eventually, to play attractive football, but you have to take small steps.

“We’ve said if we’re not going to win, we’re not going to get beaten, so the clean sheet was important, we’ve seen an honest bunch of players.

“When you come into a new club as a manager or a coach, very rarely do you come into a team that have won lots and lots of games and you have a perfect role to fill.

“Often you have to get a bit more belief and confidence into the group and that’s what we’ll do.”

Since taking over at the club, the head coach has been impressed by the application of his new players.

That, however, is the minimum he expects from his charges.

Grayson said: “What I’ve been really impressed with is the effort, work rate, desire and hunger.

“But they’re basics, I said that to the players before the game.

“All these things that I keep touching on through the week are the raw basics and fundamentals of a footballer from when he was starting out at 10 or 12 years old.

“They will have wanted to do those things and even now, at 26 or 36, you’ve still got to have those basic ideas and beliefs and philosophies.”
