Having stated he wanted to enter the transfer market for a defender and a midfielder, Fleetwood manager Steven Pressley has signed a striker.

Wes Burns has joined Town for the rest of the season on a youth loan from Bristol City.

The 21-year-old Welshman has made 14 Championship appearances for the Robins this season, scoring in last month’s home win over Middlesbrough.

A Wales U21 international, Burns has been called up to the senior national squad this season and comes into the frame for his Town debut at home to Scunthorpe this weekend.

Pressley said: “Wes adds strength to our group as we prepare for a 17-game programme over such a short period of time.

“We’ve played a number of players out of position and have asked different things from them, with the likes of Conor McLaughlin playing in central midfield.

“It’s clear that we require more strength in depth and Wes will bring competition to the group as well as goals.

“He’ll get game time here because we’ve got so many games in such a short period of time. It’s healthy for him and healthy for the group.”

But this may not be the end of Town’s recruitment. They are still missing Jimmy Ryan in central midfield, as well as regular centre-backs Nathan Pond and Joe Davis.

Pressley said: “We need a centre-half but I also think we need another midfield player. We keep having to ask the same players to go to the well.”
