Hunter is the only one of those five yet to score in pre-season, though his performances have impressed new boss Joey Barton.

Development squad forward Nadesan, 23, has netted twice and is pressing his case for first-team involvement, building on a successful loan stint at League Two side Carlisle last season.

However, fellow young striker Alex Reid is to leave Highbury.

With a season of 50-plus games ahead, Town are eager to add to their forward pack and remain interested in Preston striker Eoin Doyle as well as Evans, who has also been linked with Bradford City, Charlton Athletic and numerous others.

The interest has been sparked after Championship club Sheffield United let it be known they are willing to loan Evans (below) to a League One club to rediscover his goalscoring form.

The 29-year-old is prolific at that level, having netted 35 times for the Blades in 2011-12.

The Wales international was out of the game for the next four years. He was acquitted of rape following a retrial in 2016, having spent two and a half years in jail.

He netted seven times for Chesterfield in 2016-17 and then returned to the Blades, failing to score in 13 appearances last season.

United boss Chris Wilder now wants Evans to go out on a six-month loan to return to goalscoring form.

Wilder told the Sheffield Star: “We’ve set up a loan move for Ched. We’ve looked closely at his situation and we think it will be beneficial for us and for Ched that he goes out and plays some games.

“He could play 20-odd up until Christmas, get in a rhythm and then we’ll reassess it. It’s common knowledge that we’re looking to improve and bring players in who are ready to do the business in the Championship at the top end of the pitch.

“We’ve made no secret of that and we’re working extremely hard to do that. Hopefully Ched has a decent six months, and then we can assess it in January and go from there.”
