Fleetwood dreams of Jamie Vardy windfall could become reality as Chelsea eye Leicester forward
He put Fleetwood on the map in 2011-12, and now former Town hotshot Jamie Vardy could provide the club with another big boost if he seals a summer switch.
After helping to fire Town into the Football League the striker moved on to Leicester, and now it is rumoured champions Chelsea are about to swoop for the England striker.
It is believed a 20 per cent sell-on clause was inserted when Vardy left Town more than five years ago, though another former club, FC Halifax Town, would also receive a chunk.
Chairman Andy Pilley said Town will monitor the situation, telling this week’s fans’ forum: “There is potentially a hugely significant sell-on if he was to move for the kind of figures that are being speculated about.
“I think it is impossible for us to say how we would spend any sell-on money because it has not even happened. I don’t think it is even right to spend money before you have it.
“It would be a pleasant problem and we watch with great interest the developments at Stamford Bridge and the King Power Stadium.”
