The 27-year-old - capped once for his country - has signed until the end of the season.

Nilsson was a free agent following the end of the Swedish season in November.

Previously he had been playing for Kalmar. He has also played for Helsinbgorg and for Dutch side Utrecht.

The move gives the 6ft 4in defender a chance to break into the English game.

And he's been impressed with the setup at Town's Poolfoot training ground

"I found out quite recently, it's all happening very fast," said the Swede, who last year was linked with West Ham.

"But I'm very surprised about the club and the facilites and how the management want to develop.

"They are working hard.

"I'm happily surprised about everything."

And he's hoping a grounding in English will help him adapt.

Nilsson said: "My English is OK, my sister lives in England and has an English husband so we talk a lot of English.

"I live in Holland - I did learn the language there quite quickly and I know it helps."

Town have been light at the back since the summer, having released former skipper Mark Roberts.

Boss Steven Pressley has made no secret of his desire to bring in help for Nathan Pond and Joe Davis.

And Nilsson believes he can make an impact.

"I'm quite a big player," he said.

"I like to use my body, play tough, win headers.

"I'm big but I like to run, I'm quite fast when I get my speed up.

"That sums it up."
