Fleetwood almost drifted to a three-goal advantage at the break.

Their very first attack yielded the opener - a killer cross from Nick Haughton headed across the face by Nathan Pond, David Ball picking up the pieces.

Ball and Haughton combined again for the second on the quarter-hour - the young midfielder’s flick opening things up for Ball who had time to compose himself and beat Artur Krysiak.

And it was three after 32 minutes - Ball found in space wide on the right, a casual drive forward, Yeovil unable to stop Town’s passing game.

Ball was found, just inside the box, choosing to pass rather that shoot, Jamie Proctor’s well timed run ending with a well placed finish.

Town should have pushed on to boost their goal difference but started the second half without much of a spark.

Yeovil were, in truth, much improved and could have pulled one back but for the intervention of Chris Maxwell, the Fleetwood keeper tipping Josh Sheehan’s free kick over the bar.

It was heavy going after the break, Fleetwood well below par.

But they did grab a fourth, Antoni Sarcevic launching Jamie Proctor whose determined run set up Ashley Hunter to tap home his first Football League goal.

It was a rare highlight in a drab second half.

But that won’t concern Fleetwood - back on the heels of the top six, chasing it seems, to the very end.
