Town dominated before the break, ending their goal drought in style just after the quarter hour.

Jimmy Ryan was out to prove how much he'd been missed, sending a perfectly weighted ball over from deep, Ash Hunter's run superbly timed, capped off by a delightful lob, keeper Luke Daniels stranded as Town grabbed the lead.

The second wasn't long in coming.

Town were aggrieved not to have a free kick when Antoni Sarcevic was felled on the left of the box.

No matter, from the resulting throw Sarcevic curled a cross towards the back post, Bobby Grant helping it along with a glancing header to extend the hosts' advantage.

That should have been that.

But a slip inside first half injury time changed everything.

Conor McLaughlin rolled his ankle on a soft area of the Highbury pitch, replaced by Tyler Forbes.

And boy did Scunthorpe sniff their chance.

Forbes was a constant target as the previously lacklustre visitors sensed a comeback.

And with 20 minutes to play Town were rocked.

One penalty appeal had already been dismissed when Stephen Jordan pushed Tom Hopper inside the box.

Paddy Madden stepped up, beating Maxwell from the spot to set up an anxious finale.

Town had chances to put it beyond doubt, new boy Wes Burns showing his potential forcing a solid save from Luke Daniels.

The on-loan Bristol City forward then carved Scunthorpe open down the left, picking out Ameobi who selflessly fed Ryan whose stinging shot should have sealed the win.

In the end it was an anxious wait for the whistle, Town sealing only their second win of 2016.
