The hosts were missing several key players and a premier division side who have started the season well came out flying, taking the lead after just five minutes through Nicolas Evangolinos.

Blackpool were competing well but conceded a second on 14 minutes, when West Didsbury’s top scorer Thomas Bailey netted the first of his three.

Home fans thought their side had pulled one back midway through the half, but the ball bounced off a post and along the goal-line before being cleared.

AFC gave themselves hope when Ben Fishwick finished a good team goal in the last minute of the first half

Both sides had chances after the break and AFC looked like equalising when the ball rebounded off the bar into the path of Ben Duffield, who saw his shot superbly saved by Aaron Ashley.

That proved a crucial moment as Bailey scored his second on 67 minutes to make it 3-1. West added three more goals in the final nine minutes through Saul Henderson, former Blackpool midfielder Matty Kay (84) and Bailey again in the last minute.

AFC manager Dave Worthington said: “Sometimes you have to admit you were beaten by a better side. It was disappointing how we gifted them goals but they were clinical.

“Defensively we were poor as a unit and have to improve, though we did create chances against a side doing well in the division above and on another day we could have scored three or four.”

“We’re still learning as a team and it was a good lesson for the players and the management. Once again thank you for all your support!”

AFC return to first division action at New Mills on Saturday.
