It is understood the FA are investigating comments allegedly made by players of both sides when they met in League One at Highbury on October 9, a match Fleetwood won 4-1.

The teams meet again on Saturday afternoon in an FA Cup first-round tie on Humberside and Fleetwood boss Joey Barton spoke of the investigation in his pre-match press conference on Friday, saying: "It will have to play itself out and it is being dealt with."

Town's head coach said the investigation concerned comments allegedly directly at Fleetwood striker Ched Evans.

Barton added that the incident had left "a little bit of bad blood" ahead of today's rematch, making his side all the more determined to win through to the second round.
