Davies' sympathy for Blackpool fans

Davies returns to Blackpool with Bradford tomorrow, exactly a year after playing his last game for the club.

With protests against the club’s owners in full swing, Davies banned his wife and children from attending his final few games in tangerine.

But Davies is happy for them to watch tomorrow, when home supporters could be outnumbered by more than 3,000 Bantams fans.

He said: “With everything going on, the Blackpool supporters probably have every right to moan.

“That’s why a lot of lads who have left there haven’t got a bad word to say about them.

“I’ll probably be getting a lot of stick. Thankfully there will be over 3,000 from Bradford there. Hopefully they can drown it out and we can have another good Saturday.”

Davies spent two years at Pool, joining from Bristol City for £500,000 when Paul Ince was in charge, though injuries blighted the 28-year-old Liverpudlian’s time at the club.

But he returns tomorrow in good form, with three goals in his last four outings, all as a substitute.

He said: “There’s a lot of competition but I’ve been in squads before with five very good strikers.

“I like that because if you don’t perform you’re not in the team. I need competition to get the best out of myself.

“Blackpool is a game I want to be playing in but the gaffer will pick the team he thinks is best to put in a performance.

“Hopefully I’ve given him something to think about and I’ll be on the teamsheet.”

Bradford are four points off the play-off zone. They sit ninth in League One but Davies isn’t too concerned about any other teams.

“The last five games are when you start looking to see what other teams have done. As it stands now, it’s too early,” he said.

“All you can do is go out there and keep performing. If we can do that to our best ability, or as near as, then I’m sure we will be there or thereabouts.”
