Graham Alexander’s men dominated the opening 45 minutes, threatening the goal of veteran keeper Brian Jensen on numerous occasions.

Stephen Dobbie headed straight into the arms of the former Burnley man within minutes of the kickoff - the on-loan Crystal Palace man unmarked in the Crawley box.

Jamie Proctor, formerly of Crawley Town, was guilty of the same on the quarter hour, Crawley unable to cause any real problems in return.

They did eventually hit a purple patch as Fleetwood allowed themselves to sit too deep but it was a shot-lived spell, Town continuing to knock at the door.

A neat one-two between Proctor and Dobbie should have brought the opener, a slip as he pulled the trigger enough to spare Jensen and keep Crawley on level terms.

It almost proved costly for the visitors when Joe Walsh headed narrowly wide from Conor Henderson’s cross.

But Town ended the half on top and Conor McLaughlin almost fired them ahead, stealing in on the overlap but but unable to cap off a fantastic week.

Town started the second half in much the same vein, Dobbie again nearly testing Jensen, firing over having skipped past three men.

But the visitors’ challenge gradually fizzled out and with 12 minutes remaining they were punished.

A quick move down the left, Izale McLeod sent sprinting in a race with Chris Maxwell, Town’s keeper beaten to the ball, the striker’s finish sublime, Town sunk.
