For the past three years the academy, set up by former professional players Jamie Milligan and Trevor Sinclair and based at Fylde RFC, has provided an opportunity for Fylde coast boys and girls to train like young professionals and receive an education at the same time.

The cup final, held over from last season because of the pandemic, saw Pro:Direct Lancashire take on Ramsbottom United FC in a dramatic showpiece at the Lancashire FA headquarters in Leyland.

Pro:Direct were leading 2-0 after Dejay Delacruz finished two fine moves.

However, Ramsbottom hit back with an excellent breakaway goal and equalised in the 94th minute.

The game went straight to a shootout full of twists and turns until Pro:Direct keeper Josh Bould made an excellent save.

This meant that Dimitri Jackson could clinch the cup for Pro:Direct by converting his penalty and he did so coolly. It was a thrilling finish to a superb advert for youth football in the county.
