Consistency is key as Robertson faces new challenge at Blackpool

The Scottish centre-half has been hit by injury this season but has still managed 15 appearances and is adapting to the unfamiliar demands of League Two.

And Robertson is as anxious as anyone for Pool to record back-to-back league wins for the first time this season at Cheltenham tomorrow.

The defender revealed: “That’s the main point the gaffer has said – that we’ve had a good result (beating Doncaster 4-2 at home last Saturday) and now we need to push on and try to get up the league.

“We’ve always had confidence in the ability of the squad but it’s a case of getting the consistency we need to get up where we should be .

“We haven’t had back-to-back wins all season but we are only three points off the play-offs, which shows where we could be if we can find that consistency.”

“The season has been stop-start for me and I missed a few games with concussion, but I’m finding my feet in this league. “

League Two is something of a culture shock for Robertson, who only turned 23 last month and is in his second season in English football.

He added: “I think League Two is tougher for me because it’s a bit more physical, with more teams going route one.

“I’ve had to adapt my game from last season but I think I have dealt with it well.

I like to think I’m a ball-playing centre-half and I like to play to feet, but you need the other side to your game.

“I’m learning every game. I’m still young and I’m learning from playing alongside Tom (Aldred), who has a few years on me.

“We have more experienced players in the team this season and the younger ones, like Brad Potts and myself, can learn from them.”

But Robertson acknowledges there are still lessons Pool need to learn.

“We’ve led in a few games this season and not picked up any points. Maybe we have to play a bit differently and shut up shop.

“When we went in front at Accrington we tried to push for a second goal, which maybe we didn’t need.

“But the reaction last weekend was great.”

Now Pool aim to build on their display against Doncaster when they face Cheltenham, a side they have already beaten this season in the Checkatrade Trophy.

Robertson said: “Both teams made changes that night but Cheltenham will use that defeat as motivation. We know we are capable of beating them but we need consistency now.”
