Challinor’s FA Cup rallying cry

.They take on a Millwall side that has kept four clean-sheets at The Den in as many matches in a first round tie.

It represents a huge challenge in the capital for the National League North leaders, who are three divisions beneath Millwall in the pyramid.

Challinor said: “I have seen Millwall twice and watched them on video.

“The matches I have seen they have been really well organised and a strong side.

“I watched Millwall in the match against Bradford City, which was a 0-0 draw and it was a very attritional, direct type of game, so we know what we will be up against.”

The Coasters’ boss added: “Millwall have played well against teams who they feel comfortable defending against.

“The task for us to try and find a way in which Millwall have not been tested.”

That represents a formidable challenge for a Fylde side making their third appearance in the first round of the Cup - this match supersedes the challenge that confronted in the Coasters’ previous forays at this stage against Accrington Stanley and Plymouth Argyle, both defeats.

The Millwall Lions, who are seventh in League One, were FA Cup finalists as recently as 2004, going down 3-0 to Manchester United in Cardiff.

Challinor said: “Millwall train full-time so they will be fitter stronger, but is a one-off game and we will not be going down there just to make up the numbers.

“We have lads who can play at a higher level - in fact, I am probably more convinced of that than the players are themselves.

“Now is the chance for the team to show what they can do on such a big stage.

“We know how hard it will be, but we go down there full of confidence.”

“Our players are not used to playing on such a stage and, fingers crossed, we can show them what they are all about.”

Challinor has confirmed that he will continue his policy of playing Matt Urwin in the FA Cup, in preference to Ben Hinchliffe, who has been the regular for league matches.

Asked if this was a source of disappointment for Hinchliffe to miss out on the Coasters’ biggest-ever day, Challinor said: “The reverse side of that is Matt may feel that he has been playing in the Cup, he should be playing in the league matches as well.

“We are in the fortunate position of having two very good goalkeepers, and it is good that we have such competition between them.”
