Not only is the 24-year-old Town’s top scorer this season with eight goals in all competitions, but he is also staging a personal goal of the season competition after scoring some spectacular strikes, including his two in Town’s 4-1 win at Bristol Rovers last time out.

Having turned down more lucrative offers from elsewhere in favour of a move to the Fylde coast over the summer, the former Rochdale man is pleased with his start to life at Highbury.

“I said in the summer I just want to get my head down,” Camps said.

“There have been a few years when I haven’t got my head down and done as well as I thought I could – or should – have been doing.

“I wouldn’t say I expected to have this many goals so early but I did expect to get a few and get up and running. But to have eight this early in the season is really good.

“I just feel like I’m still a young player and it isn’t all about the money. I feel that if I do well the money will come.

“Once I’d spoken to the manager (Joey Barton) and seen the training ground, it just changed my mind.

“I spoke to my agent and it all just seemed to fit.

“I looked at the players who were here, the experienced players who I can learn from, and I felt like taking a gamble and taking less money to come here.

“It’s obviously paid off so far and hopefully it can continue.”
