Broken toe can not stop Fleetwood Town star Jimmy Ryan

With Town needing to avoid defeat in Sunday’s final game at home to Crewe to ensure survival in League One, Ryan is set to have more injections to play on and Pressley is hopeful Jordan will be able to train ahead of the 12.30pm match.

Pressley revealed Ryan has not trained for three weeks due to the broken bone, though he has not missed a game in that period.

The manager said: “Jimmy has shown a great mentality. He has continued to get injections prior to games to get himself out there. I think that epitomises what Jimmy is.

“He has been outstanding but it is unfortunate he has not managed to be on the training ground every day. That maybe took its toll on Monday, when he looked a little fatigued.”

Centre-half Jordan was forced off just three minutes into the second half after a collision with Walsall keeper Neil Etheridge before the break.

The manager explained: “We have a couple of players with bumps and bruises. Stephen had a haematoma in his leg and he has not trained this week. We hope he will return to training on Saturday.

“There is hope Stephen will be fine but it is not 100 per cent. There are Marcus Nilsson and Joe Davis, who would give me two options.”

Striker Wes Burns picked up a hamstring injury before the Walsall game and could miss out again.

The loan striker from Bristold City has scored five times for Town but Pressley said: “Wes looks very doubtful. We will not give up but I think he is likely not to make Sunday, which could prove a blow.”

With Burns a major doubt, Pressley admitted he must make big decisions up front.

Ash Hunter, Shola Ameobi and top scorer Bobby Grant were all unused substitutes at Walsall, where Devante Cole did come on and scored Town’s goal in the 3-1 defeat.

David Ball was recalled against the Saddlers alongside 21-year-old Nick Haughton, making his first League start since January.

Pressley said: “Wes has made a really good impact and is an important player, so of course he is a miss. We have to find the answers.

“We have to make sure that whoever comes in makes the right impact and hopefully gets the all-important goals to ensure our survival.

“I’ve got decisions to make. I was really happy with Devante when he came on. I thought he looked like he had some fire in his belly.

“I’ve said to many players that knocking on my door (and saying you want to play) is one thing – it is showing me out there on the training ground or in games where the true test is.

“One of my substitutions was forced upon me, with Stephen having to go off, so I was restricted really to two attacking options.

“I would hope that with them (Hunter, Bobby Grant and Ameobi) not getting any game time on Monday, they will be desperate to get back involved and that is what I want.”
