The midfielder scored two stunners, with further goals by strike duo Paddy Madden and Ched Evans, whose penalty completed the job.

Josh Grant grabbed a goal for the hosts, making it 2-1 on the hour, but it turned out to be a mere consolation for Ben Garner's outfit.

The early exchanges were notable for both sides struggling with a blustery Bristol breeze, particularly the hosts who were playing into it.

Fleetwood defender Charlie Mulgrew had the first sight of goal but his 30-yard left-foot effort was drilled wide.

This was closely followed by Madden glancing his header wide of the near post.

Fleetwood were bossing possession and snuffing out any potential Rovers attacks at source, using the guile and wile of former Bristol City attacker Wes Burns on the right flank to break Rovers defence.

Cian Harries earned the first yellow of the contest on 26 minutes for a late lunge on Josh Morris and four minutes later another free-kick from distance gave Fleetwood their opener.

A foul 30 yards out in the left channel saw Camps take aim and hit an unstoppable free-kick into the top right corner.

With the game now being played in driving rain, the goal stood out for its quality.

And after Madden had stabbed a chance wide from close in, he made amends on 37 minutes with Fleetwood's second.

A Morris corner was only half-cleared and Madden had the time and space to turn and drive home the second into the left corner of the goal.

It was close to becoming three before half-time as Irishman Madden's shot at the near post was blocked by Jordi Van Stappershoef, bringing a classy first half to a close.

Morris stung the palms of van Stappershoef at his near post as the match continued in similar vein after half-time.

But on the hour Rovers, enjoying the benefit of the elements behind them, pulled a goal back out of nothing when substitute Sam Nicholson weaved into the box and set up Josh Grant to fire into the roof of the net.

Joey Barton shuffled his pack on 69 minutes, introducing Jordan Rossiter for his first league game in a year and Evans for Morris and Sam Finley.

The goal gave Rovers belief and a little impetus too, and for the next 10 minutes they were the better side. However, they couldn’t find any way past a stubborn Fleetwood defence.

Camps had another chance to score a second screamer on 80 minutes but this time his free-kick was well wide.

However, the reprieve for Rovers was brief as Camps was then allowed too much time outside the box.

He curled a beauty into the far corner to wrap the game up with his eighth goal of the season on 82 minutes.

Four minutes later Evans was brought down in the box by Nicholson and the striker stepped up to convert the spot-kick as Town climbed to eighth in League One.
