Bowyer: Seasiders' summer business may be done

After a summer of ins and outs, the Seasiders’ boss will only move if the right player is available.

Ahead of this afternoon’s home match against Oldham Athletic, Bowyer said: “It is just a case now of what is out there, what is available and if there is anybody out there who can improve the squad.

“If there is, then maybe – but if I went with what we have now I would be happy with what we have got and with the business we have done. Obviously that changes if there are to be any outgoings as well.”

When asked if there is any areas he would like to strengthen, Bowyer added: “Not at the moment. I think we are covered in all areas with good options.”

While the Pool boss admitted it takes time to completely integrate 14 players signed since the end of last season, he feels to signs are promising.

He added: “It is 14 players, there has to be a bedding-in process. It is about being patient with them, working with them and allowing them to get better, but the quicker they can do it the better it is.

“The signs from what we have produced so far have been exciting for us.

“The resilience and character they have shown in certain games has really pleased me because you are not too sure initially, but the way we have gone about it has been pleasing.”

Bowyer reaffirmed that no offers have been received for Bright Osayi-Samuel but said the club would be interested in loan moves for Danny Philliskirk, Jamille Matt and Myles Boney.

He said: “Anybody who is a professional footballer has to be looking to play games and get minutes. I can’t guarantee everybody in the squad minutes.

“We have had conversations with certain individuals and have stated it is fine for them to stay because we know that throughout the season they will be called upon because of injuries, suspensions and loss of form. But I am of the mindset that I wouldn’t want players who are happy not playing football.

“One or two have raised concerns about their game time and I don’t have a problem with that at all.”

One new signing in line for a debut today is midfielder Sessi D’Almeida, signed from Barnsley last week.

Bowyer added: “Sessi was unable to get registered in time to play at Doncaster but comes into contention for this weekend.

“He’s a different type of midfielder who I think we have not had since we lost Jim McAlister (to injury).

“Sessi is a real good presser of the ball, and has bags of energy and ability with the ball.

“Unfortunately he had a cruciate injury but he is well over that, and it is fair to say that in training this week he has upset one or two already!

“He is competitive, that is for sure. He has got to be smart but he is someone you would not want to play against. He is a great asset for us.”
