Bowyer and Aldred agree: Blackpool must learn fast

Manager Gary Bowyer hopes the lessons learned from Blackpool's 2-1 defeat at Morecambe will help them to hit back at Barnet tonight (8pm).

The Seasiders travelled south yesterday, 48 hours after their first defeat of the season at the Globe Arena.

Brad Potts’ goal had set them on course for back-to-back League Two wins only for the Shrimps to take the points through Jack Dunn and Michael Rose.

Bowyer said: “Lessons have been learned, and hopefully we can improve on Morecambe and get the result at Barnet.

“I think that box to box a lot of our play was good but we were light in that final third.” That was down to injuries and the manager added: “Jack Redshaw and Jamille Matt have been out, so there’s more to come from us.”

Barnet have started well, with a draw at Cambridge followed by Saturday’s 2-0 home defeat of Accrington.

A Tuesday night trip to the capital may have raised a few eyebrows among those who had hoped midweek matches could be more local this season. However, Bowyer was phlegmatic when asked about the situation.

He said: “I don’t particularly think there’s a preference to when you go there. We have to go there when the fixtures say.

“In this division there aren’t going to be any easy teams. We really have to be up for the fight in every game.

“That’s what we’ll be telling the players – we’ve got to improve on what we did on Saturday.”

That was a theme echoed by Pool defender Tom Aldred following the defeat by the Shrimps.

Aldred was one of the visiting players who missed a decent chance to find the net as Bowyer’s players dominated the first half.

He said: “We’ve got to learn from it and learn fast because it’s a major disappointment. The good thing about the Football League is that there’s always an opportunity to put it right. Barnet is a massive opportunity to do that.

“It’s going to be a similar game in terms of the way they play but we have got to be up for it.

“Hopefully we’ll look back on it (Morecambe) later in the season and think to ourselves, ‘How did we lose the game?’”
