Blyth on '˜perfect' start to Pool life

econd-half strikes by strikers Mark Cullen and Leicester loanee Blyth lifted Pool four points clear of the bottom four.

Although that gap could narrow tomorrow, when Fleetwood and Oldham play the first of their games in hand (Town have two and the Latics three), the win did wonders for Pool’s survival chances.

It was Blyth’s first goal on his third appearance since last month’s loan move and the 23-year-old said it couldn’t be going much better.

“I’m really enjoying it and I couldn’t be happier,” Blyth said. “I suppose it’s been the perfect start for me, though a couple more goals would have made it even better.

“But we are unbeaten in my three games, I’ve got a goal and we are climbing the table, so I’m delighted. I’m really enjoying it now.

“I was absolutely delighted with the win on Saturday. I thought we were brilliant

“We were superb from the off and created loads of chances. I thought we were the better team overall and deserved the three points.”

It’s the third game in a row Blyth has started alongside Cullen, who has also found his scoring boots at the right time.

Cullen’s cross set up Blyth for his 79th-minute strike and the scorer added: “It’s always nice to get a goal, and for it to be one which put the game to bed was perfect.

“I saw Mark running down the right, gave a little check to pull off the defender, then took a touch and smashed it into the corner.

“We have the big guy-little guy combination up front here and it works well.

“We are really starting to click. He’s running in behind and judging my flicks. I’m really enjoying playing alongside him now.”

Ten points from 12 have lifted some of the gloom around Bloomfield Road with just five games left.

Pool will need a couple more wins to secure safety but Blyth feels they are well on their way. “We are slowly getting to where we want to be,” he said.

“In the three games I’ve been here we’ve only conceded one goal. Our defence has been brilliant, and that’s from the front to the back.

“We have to keep doing what we are doing. Colchester is a massive game on Saturday and we’ll be right up for it.”
