Blair leaves Fleetwood Town

Matty Blair has left Fleetwood Town by mutual consent.

The midfielder signed in summer 2013 having decided against putting pen to paper on a new deal at York City.

He found his opportunities limited in the first part of last season, heading to Northampton Town on loan.

Following that spell he managed to force his way into Graham Alexander’s squad, scoring the goal at Bootham Crescent which sealed Fleetwood’s play-off semi final victory over York City.

He was also part of the squad which sealed promotion at Wembley.

Blair has since struggled to hold down a first team place, making his last Fleetwood appearance at Preston North End in October.

The 27-year-old has made no secret of his desire to play regular first team football and spend more than a month on loan at Cambridge United - recalled on December 28 to fill a space on the Fleetwood bench at Rochdale.

Blair was named in the squad but not used in Saturday’s 1-0 win at Leyton Orient.
