Blackpool's summer rebuild nowhere near finished says Gary Bowyer
Gary Bowyer insists Blackpool's summer transfer business is far from done, despite having already bolstered his squad with 10 new players.
The Seasiders have lost some key players this summer, with Clark Robertson, Kyle Vassell and Colin Daniel all leaving on free transfers, while last season’s loan players have returned to their parent clubs.
That has resulted in a busy summer of recruitment for Bowyer, who stated his squad required a major overhaul ahead of the League One season.
The Pool boss said: “It’s been more of a rebuild because of the players we’ve lost but wanted to keep. In certain areas we’ve had to rebuild.
“Then you consider the impact the loan players had last season for us as well.
“We’re still nowhere near complete yet and it’s about trying to compete with all the other teams in our league for the right types.”
Of those who have already arrived at Bloomfield Road, Bowyer has spoken of his satisfaction at how they have bedded in.
“Harry Pritchard and Michael Nottingham have settled in brilliantly,” he added. “You can see they are hungry to succeed.
“It’s the first time they’ve been full-time professional footballers, and they’re enjoying that and showing really promising signs.
“Mark Howard’s experience is massive for us in what could be a young back four again.
“And then we’ve got others who have shown a great deal of potential.”
Pool are currently away on a pre-season training camp in Scotland and their only setback so far has been an injury sustained by Rowan Roache.
The 18-year-old forward, who underwent surgery on Monday, is set to be out for three months with a fractured metatarsal after picking up the injury during a training session at Squires Gate.
Bowyer added: “We’re gutted and disappointed for him and for us
“He still doesn’t know quite how he did it – maybe it was the hard pitches with the weather as it is – but he’s had an operation to repair the bone and he feels it has gone well.
“He’s now got a period in the gym, where he can make himself stronger for his return.”
