The Seasiders were utterly dominant in their 4-1 win away to League Two high-flyers Carlisle United, inflicting only their fourth defeat of the season.

The Cumbrians remain third in the table but failed to get to grips with Blackpool’s high pressing and rapid counter-attacks.

Delighted manager Bowyer said: “I thought we were very good. It’s a difficult place to come to and they’re right up there, with some good players.

“But I thought we countered ever so well for our goals. The pace and power we have is terrific.

“We weren’t very happy with their goal but it’s about the quality we had going forward. We have to carry that forward now.”

Brad Potts scored the only goal of the first half against his former club, much to the anger of the Brunton Park faithful.

Blackpool deservedly doubled their lead through Jordan Flores. It was his first goal on loan from Wigan and Flores missed a chance of a second before Carlisle pulled one back with a header from substitute Jabo Ibehr.

But just when Carlisle were threatening to salvage something, another error at the back cost them dear as substitute Sanmi Odelusi struck – another Wigan loanee scoring his first Pool goal.

The impressive Nathan Delfouneso then capped off a fine individual performance to close the game out with a neat finish from 12 yards.

Bowyer added: “First half we came out and really passed the ball well on a fantastic surface. We made the pitch big and really popped it about.

“The goal that Brad Potts scored is a wonderful team goal. It’s a great switch of play, a fabulous cross and great play from Nathan to dummy it. It’s a wonderful finish from Brad.

“We spoke about Jordan Flores in the build-up, about how it’s about time he scored and it was a great strike from him to go 2-0.

“He had another moment when he goes through and just puts it wide, and that was a chance to go 3-0. At that time we just hoped that wouldn’t come back to bite us.

“I think second half we spoke about not holding back and keeping going on the front foot. The second goal was a great break from us, with some great pressing from the front.

“Carlisle then pumped loads of balls into the box and we had to defend them, but there was one we didn’t defend very well and it’s game on. But it’s a great finish to the game for us.”

The win lifts Pool three places to 11th, five points outside the play-off zone but with a game in hand on seventh-placed Mansfield ahead of tomorrow’s visit to Portsmouth.
