Blackpool's Delfouneso misses out on player of the month award

Blackpool’s Nathan Delfouneso has missed out on winning the League One player of the month award for April.

The forward, who scored five goals in as many games last month, was beaten to the gong by Wigan Athletic’s Will Grigg.

Latics boss Paul Cook also took home the manager of the month award.

Delfouneso’s goals helped Blackpool pick up 13 points from their six games in the month of April, the Seasiders scoring 14 goals in the process.

But the voting panel, which included former West Brom, Sunderland and Wolves player Don Goodman, opted for Wigan’s top scorer Grigg instead.

The striker claimed six goals and an assist from his eight games in April to help Wigan on their way to automatic promotion.

Blackpool manager Gary Bowyer was bizarrely overlooked for the manager of the month award, which instead was picked up by Bowyer’s good friend Cook.

The Latics gained 15 points from their busy April schedule of eight games, 17 goals being scored along the way.

The Seasiders are top of the form table for the last six games and are third, behind already promoted Wigan and Blackburn Rovers, in April’s form table. That’s despite playing two games and one game less respectively.

Pool’s only defeat last month came on Easter Monday against Oldham.

Since that 2-1 reversal, Blackpool enjoyed a four game winning streak where they scored 13 goals, conceding just one.

They finished the month off with a 1-1 draw against promotion chasers Shrewsbury Town on Saturday.
