The forward went 20 games without finding the back of the net before scoring the opener in Blackpool’s 2-1 win at Rochdale on New Year’s Day.

The goal, only his second of the season, was a composed finish after he had managed to beat a defender as well as the goalkeeper.

Delfouneso admitted that long overdue goal was something that was playing on his mind.

“For me it’s been a bit frustrating lately so it’s good to get that record off my back,” the 26-year-old said. “Now I just want to move forward.”

The win, Blackpool’s first in nine attempts, took Gary Bowyer’s side up to 13th place in the League One table ahead of this weekend’s trip to Oxford United.

It also brought an end to Pool’s miserable spell of form and got 2018 off to the best possible start.

Delfouneso added: “I feel in recent weeks we’ve normally been going into half-time behind and have had to try and come back in the second half.

“We’ve been giving teams a goal or two-goal leads and have had to work extra hard just to get back into the game.

“But against Rochdale we were strong throughout and we were very consistent.

“We would have liked to have done better with the goal we did concede because I felt we deserved to come out with a clean sheet.

“But we had something to hold onto and that gave us confidence when we went a goal ahead. To get the second so soon after, you could just tell how determined all the boys were to make sure we got the three points.”
