Blackpool youth team on cusp of sealing league title

The young Seasiders recorded an impressive 4-0 win away at Wrexham on Saturday, while their title rivals Burnley could only draw at Shrewsbury Town.

Ralph Chea, playing in his last game for the club, bagged a brace while Will Dunne and Rowan Roache also got their names on the scoresheet.

The victory for Ciaran Donnelly’s side, coupled with second-placed Burnley’s 4-4 draw against Shrewsbury, means that Blackpool only need to avoid defeat against Morecambe next Saturday to seal the league title.

That would cap off a fine season for Pool, who also picked up some silverware in the form of the Lancashire FA Youth Cup.

Next week's game takes place at Myerscough College at 11am and with the senior team's game kicking off at the later time of 5.30pm, Academy Manager Ciaran Donnelly urged fans to come out and support his men.

He said: "The first team play their last game of the season at home but it’s a later kick-off at 5.30pm so I’d like to think that the Blackpool supporters would come down to Myerscough College and get behind the lads and fingers crossed we can win the title.

"We will still approach the game in the same manner that we do every game – we want to win, we want to perform well. With Burnley dropping points, we can afford to draw the game but that’s not going to be our mentality going into it."
