Blackpool striker's loan move will benefit everyone

Gary Bowyer believes Scott Quigley's loan move to Wrexham should suit all parties involved.

Quigley, who will remain with Wrexham until the end of the season, has only featured 14 times for Blackpool this season, most of those appearances coming as a substitute.

The striker has yet to find the back of the net for Bowyer’s side although he did score the winning penalty in Blackpool’s Checkatrade Trophy penalty shootout win against Mansfield Town.

The Shrewsbury-born forward joins players including Myles Boney and Raul Correia who have also been sent out on loan in recent weeks to Nantwich Town and York City respectively.

Bowyer said: “The lads that are out on loan are doing ever so well, like Caleb (Richards) at Southport and Myles.

“Raul has gone out again and we’ve also got Scott Quigley out at Wrexham which is going to be a fabulous move for him.

“He’s done ever so well since he’s come into the club and he’s improved.

“We saw the potential when we signed him but he needed games and this is a great opportunity for him to get that until the end of the season.

“Then he can come back fighting in pre-season ready to go again next season.”

The Seasiders signed Quigley from Welsh outfit TNS during the summer for an initial fee of £35,000, potentially rising to £50,000.

The 25-year-old forward agreed a two-year contract at Bloomfield Road, with the Tangerines holding an option to extend the deal by a further 12 months.

Quigley’s departure meant Blackpool were able to bring in striker Dan Agyei on loan from Burnley to help bolster their forward line, which has been depleted in recent weeks because of the absence of Kyle Vassell and Mark Cullen.

Vassell, still the club’s top scorer with eight goals, has been out since the start of December but is close to a return.

He could even be named in Blackpool’s squad for today’s trip to AFC Wimbledon, but Bowyer is likely to give him another week in training to get back up to full fitness.

Cullen has been sidelined since August but no date has been set for his return.

Bowyer added: “Kyle has had a good week with us so we’ve got to be sensible with him in terms of whether we give him another week’s training before we put him back into the fold or look at him for this Saturday.

“Unfortunately Jim McAlister took a bang in training on the same bit of his leg that he broke.

“We’re just waiting for all the reports first before we can confirm anything.”
