Blackpool midfielder targets Oxford double

Blackpool head to the Kassam Stadium today looking for back-to-back victories after getting back to winning ways against Rochdale on New Year’s Day.

Gary Bowyer’s men have already beaten Oxford this season, coming out on top back in September when they eased to a 3-1 victory at Bloomfield Road thanks to goals from Kyle Vassell (2) and Callum Cooke.

Longstaff, who extended his loan deal until the end of the season on Thursday, sees no reason why Blackpool can’t do the double over Oxford this afternoon.

He said: “I thought when we played Oxford here we were really good and that was probably the standout performance of the season so far.

“It will be a tough game and I imagine it will be a tougher proposition going to their ground than playing at home.

“Obviously they know what we’re about now but I think it’s two good footballing teams, so it should be a good game which should suit us a bit more than the Rochdale game – even though we won that.

“It’s another tough game but hopefully we can come out on top.

“It would be massive for us to pick up back-to-back wins because we’ve not done it in a while.

“But we’re unbeaten in our last two so if we would be great if we could pick up another win.

“Even if we get a point it would be pretty decent, but we’re definitely going down there to win to start off another little run to get us back up the table.”

Longstaff, who has found the back of the net six times so far this season, believes the Seasiders have plenty to build on from their performances in the first half of the campaign.

He added: “The season started really well and we surprised a lot of people by just how well we were playing.

“We’ve had a little dip but that was always going to come. We have a few young boys in the team so it took us a bit of time to getting used to playing Saturday-Tuesday-Saturday.

“But I think we’ve done pretty well but the league remains very tight, so if we can put a little run together there’s no reason why we can’t be up there.

“The win at Rochdale was a massive win and I think it’s given all the lads a lift.”
