While Jay Spearing is looking forward to a Blackburn Rovers return this afternoon, the midfielder insists his only focus is three points for Blackpool.

Spearing, who played under Gary Bowyer at Blackburn on loan from Bolton Wanderers during the 2014/15 campaign, has happy memories of his time at Ewood Park.

He only made 15 appearances during his time there, scoring the once, but the club still managed to leave a lasting impression on him.

But Spearing, who signed for Blackpool on a free transfer back in October, says any feelings of goodwill will be put to one side when he lines up against Tony Mowbray’s table toppers this afternoon.

He said: “It was the gaffer here that brought me in at Blackburn to play 15 games, and I also scored a goal.

“I had some good times there, we had a great team, it was a great set-up and the club’s great.

“But for me it’s all about Blackpool going there for three points to keep this unbeaten run going now.

“When you’re on a little bit of a run, you want the games to come quick and fast.

“We’ve had two great away results, winning 2-0 at Wigan and Portsmouth, and if we could make it three it would be even better.

“I watched Blackburn last week against Wigan and they’re a good side.

“They’ve got some very experienced players and some young lads and they’re not up there or no reason.

“We’ve got to go there full of confidence, which we will do, and work as hard as we can to try and come away with three points.”

Spearing also paid tribute to the club’s youth team, who have made it to the semi-finals of the FA Youth Cup after beating Blackburn Rovers 3-2 on Tuesday.

The young Seasiders will now face Premier League giants Arsenal in a two-legged tie in the last four.

Spearing knows all about the significance of the FA Youth Cup having won it twice as a youngster at Liverpool.

He added: “As a 17, 18-year-old, to play in a knockout cup and get yourself ready for that next level is good and exciting. You always want to go as far as you can.

“The lads have done tremendously well up to now and thoroughly deserve to be in the semi-finals.

“They’ve now got to go and enjoy every second of the opportunity against Arsenal and the chance to play at The Emirates.

“They need to make sure that they leave no regrets on the field.”
