Blackpool great Ormerod's testimonial put back four weeks

The event was intended to be the opening match at AFC Fylde’s new Mill Farm Stadium but it has been postponed due to concerns that the necessary safety certificate may not be gained in time.

This celebration of the career of legendary Blackpool striker Ormerod had been set for Sunday July 31 but has now been rearranged for Sunday August 28.

The state of unrest between Blackpool FC and many of its supporters prompted Ormerod to decide it would be inappropriate to stage the match at Bloomfield Road.

A statement from AFC Fylde reads: “A decision was reached due to concerns about the timing of a safety certificate being issued. Rescheduling the match removes any safety concerns and any risk of a late postponement.

“Any tickets/hospitality packages purchased for the original date will be valid for the new date. However, full refunds will be issued for anyone unable to make the new date.

“We are also now hopeful of offering additional standing tickets in the North Stand for a match that is already heading towards a sell-out. We apologise for any inconvenience caused by the date change.

Th postponement was agreed following a meeting between AFC Fylde, Ormerod and Blackpool Supporters’ Trust.

A BST statement adds: “This decision was brought about by a number of factors. However, it primarily relates to concerns that there was a risk that the stadium’s safety certificate might not be issued in time and/or could be limited in some way.

“Whilst acknowledging the inconvenience to some of those who have already purchased tickets who might not be able to attend the new date, on balance BST believe this decision to be the right one.

“Rescheduling the game to August 28 firstly removes any concerns over the possibility of issues arising over the issue of the safety certificate and a late notice of postponement.

“There will also be an opportunity make additional seats available in the new Italian restaurant to those who were disappointed on missing out on the hospitality option.

“Finally, it is hoped that holding the game over the August bank holiday weekend will help create a festival atmosphere and also make it easier for exiles to attend the fixture.

“If anyone who has purchased tickets cannot attend on the new date they will be entitled to a full refund as a matter of course. Supporters who have already bought tickets and can attend on the new date do not need to do anything further as your existing booking will be valid. We hope you all understand and support the decision.”
