Top scorer Makepeace scored the only goal in the second half of the derby showdown at Preston North End.

Preston applied pressure in search of an equaliser but Blackpool would not be denied.

After an even start to the game, Preston camped in the Blackpool half but defenders Jessica Greener, Olivia Golden and Keisha Masterson worked well to absorb the pressure.

Makepeace linked up with Blackpool team-mate Eve Whitaker to create some shooting chances which were narrowly off-target.

Preston created openings too but were thwarted by impressive keeper Megan Hunter in an one-on-one.

Blackpool began the second half positively, with Eve Whitaker, Molly Kelly and Sophie Hughes playing some dangerous balls.

They began to control possession and were rewarded with a fine and clinical finish by Makepeace.

The emphasis then shifted to defence as Blackpool looked to hold on to their lead.

Hunter’s form in goal was put to the test as Preston looked to snatch a late equaliser but she proved up to the task on several occasions.

The clean sheet ensured Blackpool could celebrate a wonderful win.
