Blackpool FC's injured trio set to return?

The Seasiders have picked up a few niggles over the course of pre-season and two of his key men, Danny Philliskirk and Danny Pugh, were hit by a sickness bug.

Bowyer is hopeful the duo will be back in training today and that one of Jack Redshaw or Jamille Matt will be fit enough to train too after forward Mark Cullen (hamstring), Clark Robertson and Henry Cameron returned.

Saturday was Cameron’s first appearance for the club since he picked up an anterior cruciate ligament injury making his debut for New Zealand in November.

Bowyer said: “I felt it was another good workout for us.

“It was the final game before the real stuff starts on Saturday against a very good Bury team.

“It was a decent first-half performance from us but the second half we just started a little bit slowly but overall the main aim was to come through the game with no injuries.

“We had a bit of rotten luck with Danny Philliskirk and Danny Pugh both phoning in ill so we have to make sure there is not a little virus flying around but we’re delighted to have that this week rather than on Saturday.

“Danny (Pugh) was desperate to play in this one but he picked up a bug overnight, we wish him well and hopefully he is back in today.

“We expect on of them to be back in with us on Monday so with a little bit of luck we have got that. We are hoping that this little bit of bad luck we have had with injuries in pre-season has come at that time and that we are ready to go at the start of the season.”

And Bowyer was overjoyed to see academy graduate Cameron get some game time as Brad Potts’ late equaliser cancelled out Kelvin Etuhu’s strike.

He said: “For Henry it is outstanding that we have been able to get him on the pitch.

“He has had a terrible eight months, he has worked ever so hard and we have looked after him in pre-season and that will do him the world of good to get out there on the pitch.

“He needs games now, he needs to catch up but we are pleased with that. To get Clark and Mark Cullen on the pitch was an added bonus.”

The sickness bug to Philliskirk, injuries to Redshaw and Matt, with Cullen just returning allowed Bowyer to push Mark Yeates up to play off Kyle Vassell.

He said: “We had the drop-outs and so it gave us an opportunity to look at Yeatesy in that position (just behind Vassell).

“I think Danny Philliskirk has done it ever so well but it gave us an opportunity to look at Mark and with the ability that he has got he creates things for us and it is good for me to see that.”
