'We restricted them to virtually nothing': Neil Critchley delighted with Blackpool's defensive work in crucial win against MK Dons

Sullay Kaikai’s second-half strike handed the Seasiders just their second win of the league campaign.

It was a fairly lacklustre affair in the main, but Blackpool did well defensively and will be pleased to keep a clean sheet to take them out of League One’s bottom four.

“I thought it was a deserved three points, I thought we were excellent - particularly defensively,” Critchley said.

“They’re an excellent football team. We’ve watched a lot of their games this season and in terms of the way they play and their style of play, they’re the best team I’ve seen.

“They went to Oxford in the week and had 70 per cent of the ball. They had 70 per cent against Portsmouth and they create problems and chances.

“We restricted them to virtually nothing in the whole game. We had some moments of promise in the first-half, some counter-attacks which we didn’t make the most of in threatening positions.

“I think you could see a little bit of anxiety in the players, but the moment has gone for us today when the moments so far this season haven’t gone for us.

“But there’s not been a big difference between this performance and Charlton on Tuesday night, the only difference is the moment has gone for us.

“It was a moment of quality from Sullay and that’s what he brings to the team. That’s why we were keen to get him back in.

“You know when it lands to Sullay inside the penalty area with his technique he can score off both feet.

“It was a nice moment, although there might have been a slight bit of fortune in the way the ball landed to him, but I think we deserved that little bit of fortune.”
