Neil Critchley remaining cautious despite Blackpool's much-needed win at Burton ...

Jerry Yates was at the double, scoring his first goals for Blackpool, to hand Neil Critchley a much-needed three points.

The Brewers had brought themselves level courtesy of Daniel Gretarsson's unfortunate own goal midway through the second-half, but Yates was the match-winner when he completed his brace from the penalty spot.

“We are disappointed today," Buxton said.

"We have said that if performances are correct then results will come but today we didn’t put either together.

"Performance levels were not up to expectations and we had four or five under par and when you have that number of players not coming up to the level, you are not going to win games.

“The way we are conceding goals and giving opponents a head start is costing us and will continue to cost us if we don’t cut that out of our game.

“We started okay, but we shouldn’t get too conned by the fact that we had opportunities in the first-half as we didn’t start with the intensity we have done in the last couple of games.

"We did look a bit jaded and leggy, which might be expected as the majority of the lads were going again on the back of Peterborough, but I still expected them to start better than we did.”

Buxton was especially frustrated to concede the second not long after getting back into the game.

“We scored the goal and had a little bit of momentum," he added.

"We looked fresher as Charles Vernam gives us that threat and at that point it looked like we were the only side putting on pressure and squeezing for a goal.

“Then we give a corner away, don’t defend the box well enough and give a silly penalty away and at the minute we are giving the opposition one, if not two goals a game very cheaply and we won’t pick up points if we continue to do that.

“It’s happening far too much now and it needs to change.

“There was a lot not right today and it’s exactly the same group as Tuesday night. Big performances on Tuesday and lots of 8 or 9s out of 10 and today it was 5 or 6 out of ten and it’s not enough.”
