Stoke City boss Michael O'Neill 'frustrated' and 'infuriated' by his side's performance despite Carabao Cup win over Blackpool

The Championship outfit edged today's encounter 5-4 on penalties after the two sides couldn't be separated following 90 goalless minutes of action.

Blackpool were the better side for much of the game and created the better chances, but unfortunately Neil Critchley's men weren't able to make their domination count.

While O'Neill was happy to secure passage into the next round of the competition, the Stoke boss was far from pleased with his side's display.

"It was a bit frustrating to be honest," he said.

"It's nice to be through and it gives us the chance to progress in the cup and it gives us the chance to get more competitive games, which is what we want.

"But there was a lot of aspects of our play today that were a little bit infuriating if I'm being honest. I thought we were poor in many areas.

"Individually we were poor, we gave the ball away poorly and our technical level at times was poor.

"We've still got two weeks to go until the start of the season but it's something we need to work on, so we've got two hard weeks ahead of us to be ready.

"I was expecting more from my side today, no doubt.

"I hoped we would have shown a bit more than we did. I was pleased with Jordan Thompson, I was pleased with Adam Davies, but a lot of others didn't really do as well as we would have hoped."
